Each year on April 7th, we recognize World Health Day, captained by the World Health Organization, to increase the awareness of global health concerns. Mental and physical health is important when it comes to so many aspects of our lives. The workplace is just one of many. That’s why at The Performance Group, we put your safety and health first in everything we do from our screening process to our worksite reviews. In recognition of World Health Day, we’re sharing five reasons why all companies should stress workplace safety.
Reduce Stress
When employers promote workplace safety, it boosts wellness and morale on both ends of the spectrum. Employers feel at ease knowing their employees are safe and employees feel better knowing they are in a workplace that cares about their safety. Stress in a work environment, especially when it comes to industrial positions, contributes to poor efficiency and mental health issues. To sum it up, healthy employees result in efficient work and happy managers.
Increase Productivity
Workplace safety not only keeps employees at ease, but increases their productivity as well. When employees know how to use tools and machines safely and properly, they are able to work more efficiently too. That being said, productive employees are a huge asset to all companies.
Fewer Injuries
Obviously the goal of having a safe work environment is to reduce the number of health concerns and injuries. In turn, there are less safety investigations and lower costs in workers’ compensation. No employee wants to work somewhere where they feel they could be injured at any given moment and no employer wants to pay thousands in workers compensation costs.
Decreased Damages
When employees know how to use machines and tools correctly, there are less damages as well. Often times, many employers will find that a lack of training has caused multiple malfunctions and damages in machinery and in the workplace in general. Proper use and safety training will reverse this result.
Increased Confidence
What do all of these factors lead to for employees? Confidence. They lead to confidence in their abilities, in their employer, and the position. The more comfortable and confident that employees are, the less amount of absenteeism and turnover.
Workplace safety starts with us: the employers. Depending on the industry and position, it may not be so straight forward or crystal clear. However, with the right procedures and training in place, any worksite can be productive and safe. At The Performance Group, we do our part by conducting employee safety training, the use of a safety committee, worksite safety reviews, and more! Safety is at the forefront of everything we do.
